The Kansas City Chiefs are your 2024 Super Bowl Champions! If you’re anything like me (a slightly crazed KC football fan), you’re still riding the high of an action-packed event. Fumbles, overtime, Taylor Swift — oh my! — this Super Bowl had everything.

But we’re not here to talk about the actual game or my thoughts on Travis and Taylor’s relationship. (Trust me, I could go on forever.) We’re here to talk about the commercials. And wow, there’s plenty to discuss.

The theme this year was serious star power. Brands across industries invested in A-list celebs to feature in their spots. From Quinta Brunson and Arnold Schwarzenegger selling financial and insurance tools to Tina Fey and Dan Levy promoting vacation and residential homes, commercial rosters were stacked.

If we had to pick, though, certain brands stood out from the pack. Here are New Boston Creative Group’s favorite Super Bowl ads from 2024.

Dunkin’ Donuts: DunKings

This was the perfect amount of silliness and satire. The spot was memorable and featured great writing for Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, JLo and even Tom Brady to play caricatures of themselves. Maybe more a successful comedy sketch than a true ad, it worked as a solid continuation of the brand recognition Dunkin' Donuts is going for with Affleck as their spokesperson.

PlutoTV: Couch Potatoes

Almost too dystopian for comfort — are we a doomed society? — this commercial drew on classic Super Bowl tropes (workers getting their hands dirty, a long history of family business, etc.) to tell the story of “farmers” keeping their couch potatoes happy. By showing TV screens with popular programs, PlutoTV assures the viewer they have the content you’re after.

Reese’s: Caramel Cup

This commercial made a few New Bostonians laugh out loud. Each time you watch, you’ll notice another unhinged reaction to the announcer's new piece of information. Some of our favorites: breaking through the drywall only to patch it up again in the next clip, jumping in and out of the window and the hula-hooping dog. This form lent itself well to answering several of the audience's potential questions about the new variety of caramel cups.

Doritos: Dinamita

Who doesn't love a couple of badass abuelas? Doritos made the brilliant decision to make the characters' names align with the name of the product, showing different versions of the product throughout and making the story genuinely funny. This was successful as a one-off, but we could also see Dina and Mita showing up for wild, action-packed commercials in the future.

CeraVe: Michael CeraVe

The internet was abuzz well before the Super Bowl because of paparazzi photos showing Michael Cera holding CeraVe products in a not-so-subtle public outing. Using influencers on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms, CeraVe started the rumor that Michael Cera created the brand. Everyone was in on the joke, and we knew something Super Bowl-sized was coming. This commercial was weird, but it stayed true to Michael Cera’s brand of humor. It made us laugh, and we don't think we’ll ever be able to remove "Let my cream hydrate you" from our brains.

Pfizer: Here's to Science

In a sea of comedy and celebrity, striking a serious tone was a tough task this year. Pfizer hit the bull’s-eye with its Here’s to Science commercial. It did have some fun elements involving animation of figures in paintings and historical photographs, but it didn’t shy away from the mission of connecting science and research to real-life discoveries and their impact in the form of a young cancer patient leaving the hospital. The upbeat music and engaging style brought past scientific discoveries into the present and helped us look to the future, all while packing an emotional punch. Pfizer also made an effort to be inclusive and depicted important discoveries from women and people of color, and it showed a diverse group of healthcare workers at the end. Bravo!
