The Konza Prairie Biological Station is a sprawling native tallgrass prairie preserve in the Flint Hills. The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University jointly own KPBS, and the K-State Division of Biology manages the land as a field research station. While Konza Prairie is used for research, its Nature Trails are open to the public from sunrise to sunset each day of the year.

To educate visitors about the site’s trails, ecosystem, history and conservation efforts, New Boston Creative Group designed seven complementary signs that now adorn the trailhead entrance so visitors can learn about what they’ll see along the way before they start off on a hike.

Konza Prairie

Sign Design

The Konza Prairie team provided content for each sign, which NBCG refined through editing, proofreading and photo color correction. Once the images and messaging were finalized, ourdesigners brought the concepts to life.

The seven signs include:

  • Konza Prairie Trail Map
  • Tallgrass Prairie Grasses
  • Fire and Grazing Information
  • The History of the Konza
  • Education and Outreach Efforts
  • Konza Prairie Biological Station Explainer
  • Organisms to See by Time of Year

Where appropriate, QR codes linking to additional resources are incorporated to extend the experience beyond the trail. Each sign aligns with Konza Prairie’s established branding and provides a cohesive, visually engaging experience for visitors.
