Kansas Office of Apprenticeship
Through the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Office of Registered Apprenticeship works to coordinate and promote Registered Apprenticeships across the state. As an apprentice, young people can earn as they learn, receive mentorship and get hands-on training. Employers who participate may receive tax benefits and stabilize their employee pipeline.
The audience for this effort includes individuals looking to launch successful careers and Kansas employers aiming to build their workforce. To spread the word about Registered Apprenticeships to both audiences, New Boston Creative Group wrote and developed 11 promotional videos.
Live-Action Videos
NBCG developed scripts for two “Career Hunters” long-form videos, which feature relatable characters exploring career paths. We promoted the opportunity to local talent, hired actors and coordinated with real employers to plan the shoots. In collaboration with the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship team, NBCG planned a production schedule that included four full days of on-site filming in Topeka, Lawrence and Wichita.
After editing the two full-length videos and receiving final approval, our team developed eight short clips for use on social media (four from each video). These clips focus on specific industries and include a call to action for viewers to learn more about Registered Apprenticeships.
Career Hunters: Lucy
Lucy, a 24-year-old originally from Andover, Kansas, went to college for a year after high school, but she couldn’t decide what to major in, so she chose to work while she decided what she wanted to do with her life. She’s been waitressing for a few years to support herself and her daughter, Samantha. Not sure where to start, she turned to KANSASWORKS for Registered Apprenticeship ideas. Based on her wish list, the healthcare, education or aviation industry could be the perfect fit.
Career Hunters: Jason
Jason, a 23-year-old originally from Silver Lake, Kansas, has been paying his bills through hourly jobs in the Topeka area since high school, but now he’s ready to hang up his apron and learn some high-demand skills. The catch is he’s not sure what industry best suits him. He decides to look into a Registered Apprenticeship. Based on his wish list, KANSASWORKS thinks the construction, manufacturing or energy industry could be a great fit.
Animated Video
NBCG created storyboards and graphics for a two-minute animated video to explain what a Registered Apprenticeship is and how to get started. We shared storyboards with the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship for feedback before our team executed the final vision.
Video Game
Apprenticeships are a powerful alternative to traditional academic paths. With the right program, young people can step into skilled roles, earn as they learn and contribute to the workforce as soon as graduation day!
Campaign
This video series equips the Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship with a versatile library of content to reach both prospective apprentices and employers. A campaign to promote the videos will run from April 2025 through October 2027 with the goals of increasing awareness and program use.
